Defending AI systems became fashionable fast, and the noise has buried the signal defenders actually need. Emily Soward presents longitudinal research on how defenders are affected by the interplay of the commodity AI boom and shifts on both the offensive and defensive sides — and what it takes to prioritize countermeasures and risk strategies that hold up against current and evolving threat conditions.

Emily Soward presents longitudinal research and case work on what the commodity AI boom is doing to defenders — and the evidence gap it leaves behind. One example: as of October 2025, MITRE’s ATT&CK and its AI matrix ATLAS carried reference mitigations for just 33% of MITRE’s AI TTPs, under threat conditions where those mitigations already had public examples of compromise by low- to medium-skilled actors. Defenders lose time and budget implementing the wrong defenses. Attendees leave with concrete ways to update investigation playbooks, prioritize AI controls from incident analysis, and build evidence that withstands scrutiny.
